Relationships may change as dementia progresses, but connection remains possible. Familiar voices, shared humour, gentle touch and time together can continue to carry meaning.

Alma visited her husband regularly but worried that he no longer recognised her. A member of staff noticed that he became more settled when she sat beside him and played music they had enjoyed together. He may not always have been able to explain the relationship, but her presence still mattered.
