Consultancy and Impact

I’ve been privileged to work on a wide range of projects that share a common goal: improving lives through inclusive, person-centred approaches.

My consultancy work spans dementia care, disability inclusion, evaluation, and development. Below are some of the key themes and examples of my work.

One Place East – Experts By Experience

I worked with disabled people, including those with learning disabilities, autistic people, and people living with mental health issues, to create meaningful change.

Over two years, I trained and supported individuals to become Experts by Experience. We co-designed and co-produced training sessions which they went on to deliver for health and social care professionals under the theme Learning Bites.

This transformational project focused on Ability, not Disability, with participants creating their own logo and videos. In 2025, the group expanded to co-produce workshops on Cancer Awareness and Learning Disability Awareness— entirely delivered by people with lived experience.

Championing Person-Centred Dementia Care

As a qualified Dementia Care Mapper, I’ve observed the lived experience of people with dementia in many care settings (care homes, hospitals and day centres).

This approach provides unique insights and helps care teams adapt practices to improve emotional and physical well-being.

For seven years, I worked with Meaningful Care Matters (formerly Dementia Care Matters), supporting care homes in Ireland and across the UK – (including the Royal British Legion’s Maurice House in Broadstairs) to implement the Butterfly Approach. This included using observational tools and audits to embed person-centred care.

On behalf of Dementia UK and My Home Life, I led the community development strand of My Home Life London. This initiative brought together care homes, local authorities, and partners to identify key issues and co-create solutions using Appreciative Inquiry.

Evaluation Through Sharing Human Stories

In partnership with Sally Knocker, I independently evaluated Opening Doors London — an Age UK project supporting older LGBT+ people. Over two years, we ran consultations, focus groups, and surveys to assess impact.

The evaluation helped secure further funding and raised awareness of issues affecting this community.

During the Covid pandemic, I interviewed carers and reported on behalf of Dementia Pathfinders about how Dementia Navigator services adapted to ensure people with dementia and their carers continued to receive vital support. I evaluated dementia end-of-life services for Crossroads in Redbridge, interviewing people with dementia and their carers to understand late-stage needs and improve specialist support.

Giving People Voice, Creating Change

At the height of Covid, I facilitated online learning sessions for NAPA’s project supporting activity providers and care staff across the UK.

This initiative helped teams navigate unprecedented challenges and maintain meaningful connections for residents.

I’ve contributed to resources, policies, and strategies throughout my career—from translating complex scientific information at Terrence Higgins Trust to writing evaluation reports and literature on older LGBT+ issues. I’ve also authored several Speed-Read guides for the Directory of Social Change.

I am proud to be LGBT+ Inclusion advisor to NAPA (National Activity Providers Association).
